Tropical Cyclone Warning Number 4 issued by the Vanuatu Meteorology and Geo-Hazards Department, Port Vila at 3:12pm VUT Tuesday 23 February 2016 for Futuna and Aneityum At 11:00am local time, Severe Tropical Cyclone Winston (960hPa) Category 3 was located at 19.2 degrees South 173.0 degrees East. Severe Tropical Cyclone Winston is positioned at the top left of the square letter M, Number 9 (M, 9) of the Vanuatu Tropical Cyclone Tracking Map. This is about 395 KM east of Tanna and 350 KM east northeast of Aneityum. In the 6 hours, Severe Tropical Cyclone Winston moved in a southeast direction at 14 KM/HR. Winds close to the centre are estimated at 155 KM/HR (85 knots). Severe Tropical Cyclone Winston is forecast to be at 20.6 degrees South 173.9 degrees East within the next 06 to 12 hours. Strong to gale force winds 60 to 70 KM/HR are expected to continue to affect Futuna and Aneityum. However, winds over these areas will slowly weaken as the system moves further southeast away from Vanuatu. Heavy rainfall and flooding are also expected. This will be the final warning on Severe Tropical Cyclone Winston and the next and final information will be issued at 6:00pm. People over TAFEA particularly Futuna and Aneityum should continue to listen to Radio Outlets to get the next information on this system.
