Parliament Speaker Pipite's appeal against the Supreme Court's judgement that he illegally closed Parliament last time was granted a "stay" order late yesterday of just two days. Pipite's legal team has until 12 noon Thursday July 2 to try to put forward a case. It was agreed yesterday evening, by consent of the lawyers of both sides, that if the appeal has not been determined by 12 noon on Thursday, the Parliament sitting must be re-instated by the Speaker by 4 pm Thursday 2 July. Daily Post has the late arriving story on page 3. Radio Vanuatu News this morning did not mention the case. Air Vanuatu engineering / technical staff have petitioned against the Manager of the Engineering division, Daily Post reports today. He, Jim Samson, is alleged to have had the maintenance manual amended at the expense of Air Vanuatu to suit his qualifications. The Civil Aviation Authority has also failed to approve the appointment of Samson who is said to be appealing. Daily Post also points out the possibility of of a tropical disturbance developing into a cyclone in the next 24 to 48 hours. There is said to be a moderate possibility of this happening. The low is 420 nautical miles due north of San Cristobal in the Solomons.
